In order to use the Midi Hymns Player you will need Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or greater, or Netscape Navigator 3.0 or greater, and JavaScript enabled. It will also function properly in the AOL web browser, if you have AOL 3.0 for Windows 95 or greater installed with Internet Explorer, but the Midi Hymns Player window will be bigger than it is supposed to be. If the window gets in the way, minimize it.
You will get the best quality sound from a wavetable sound card. I have arranged them with this in mind, so if you have a FM-type sound card don't expect excellent sound quality. If you are curious about the difference in quality between FM and wavetable synthesis click this sound clip of 'Christ Arose' recorded from my wavetable sound card: wtsample.wav - 85kb, Mono, 11Khz, 8 bit quality.
If you would like to put a link on your own home page to the Midi Hymns
Player use this URL: http://www.midihymns.net/music.htm
You must use this link for it function properly! After the Midi Hymns Player loads
the start up page, it will return back to the page where you placed the link, if the user
has a web browser that is recent enough. Once the Midi Hymns Player is loaded, the
user is free to browse anywhere he or she chooses and the Midi Hymns Player will continue
to function, as long as an internet connection is maintained or the window is not closed.
A note on 'Cookies': The Midi Hymns Player does not
require the use of a small 'cookie' file to function, but it does use it to save your
settings (last song played, current song list, and random on or off), so that next time
you use it, it will remember where you left off. Microsoft Internet Explorer saves this
'cookie' when you close the window, but with Netscape Navigator 4, due to a work around to
an apparent bug, it saves it each time a setting changes.
